Near as I can tell, the "...Glad to be of help.<br /><br />Near as I can tell, the "pad" is the twin bump on the metal strip (click on the image to see a larger version). It's raised to make it easier to close the circuit with the battery using any metal object, such as a jeweler's screwdriver. Yes, any spot on that strip will suffice. <br /><br />It's been a while, but I believe it works to short the battery before replacing the plastic cover on the battery.
